Brief Position Overview

The College of Letters and Sciences Freshman Seminar Program is now accepting applications from those with demonstrated and effective teaching experience, to serve as Faculty in our CLS101 or CLS201 seminar. Successful candidates will enjoy leading discussions about a variety of texts and topics and can exemplify expert learning for incoming freshmen in an exciting multi-disciplinary seminar.

Position Details

General Statement

The College of Letters and Sciences Freshman Seminar Program is now accepting applications from those with demonstrated and effective teaching experience, to serve as Faculty in our CLS101 or CLS201 seminar.

Duties and Responsibilities

Lead seminar course of 16-18 students, attend CLS faculty meetings once per week, usually on Wednesday from 12:00-1:00 pm or Thursdays afternoons (time TBD) to discuss the texts and teaching pedagogy and classroom concerns if they arise.

Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

1. Minimum of a Master’s Degree in the appropriate field with academic background commensurate with teaching one or more of the specialty areas listed above.

2. Effective interpersonal skills including the ability to collaborate successfully with faculty, staff, and students.

Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

1. Terminal degree in appropriate field.

2. Previous teaching experience in similar courses.

Position Special Requirements/Additional Information

This position MAY BE a Union position. Union membership is determined by the amount of work being contracted.

Any position working 50% or more is represented by the Associated Faculty of Montana State University (AFMSU) Faculty covered by AFMSU must begin paying either membership dues or representation fees within thirty (30) days of hire. The Program

This program is different from nearly any other course students are likely to take at MSU. It is small, it approaches the subject matter from multi-disciplinary perspectives, and it gives students an opportunity to work closely with a faculty member and other students. The course is designed to engage students in university life and college-level learning through reading, thinking and dialogue.
