Position Details

General Statement

Multiple positions available for various levels of Human Resource Generalists. Placement dependent upon level of experience and specialized knowledge.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Human Resource Generalist serves as a collaborative team member within University Human Resources providing HR high-quality consultation and support to campus colleges and administrative units.


Responsibilities as a Human Resource Generalist may include guidance and administration of classification and compensation, recruitment and selection, leave management, and employee relations, performance management, organizational development/labor relations and other areas of human resources. The HR Generalist consults with client groups to develop HR strategies and solutions leveraging all services provided by HR, perform special project work, maintains and analyses a variety of HR reports, and performs related duties as required.

Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
  1. Substantial relevant experience in human resources or certification or Bachelor’s degree in human resources (or related field) or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  2. Demonstrated experience and application of human resources concepts, principles and practices.
  3. Experience providing high-quality advice and human resource guidance to clients in a consulting capacity.
  4. Demonstrated competence using personal computers and various software such as word processing, spreadsheets, database, presentation, email and internet. Microsoft Office software preferred.
  5. Demonstrated experience gathering and compiling information to analyze and evaluate complex matters.
Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
  1. Working knowledge of human resource laws and regulations.
  2. Experience in one or more of the following specialist areas: compensation, recruitment and selection, performance management, organizational development, or employee and labor relations.
  3. Successful experience providing customer service for a diverse group of internal and external constituents in a complex organizational environment.
  4. Demonstrated experience delivering training and presenting to small and large groups.

  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal, listening and communications skills including the ability to collaborate successfully with faculty, staff, students and applicants both in person and over the phone.
  • Handle sensitive confidential situations and information.
  • Balance independent work and team-oriented work in a productive manner to foster a cooperative work environment.
  • Possess excellent organizational skills and critical thinking skills in order to prioritize and manage several simultaneous projects with dynamic, and sometimes conflicting priorities while maintaining accuracy.
  • Analyze complex matters within the broader human resources context and provide integrated solutions to improve the quality of the processes.
  • Have the desire to increase knowledge, acquire new skills and take on new projects and challenges.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and skill in interpreting and applying state and federal statutes, University and departmental policies and procedures.
