Position Details

General Statement

The Student Health Service provides medical, dental, and health promotion services to students at Montana State University in Bozeman.

Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Provide high quality primary health care to students and in a compassionate, ethical, and professional manner.
  2. In this role, a mid-level provider is expected to:
    (a.) Perform history and physical for acute and chronic health issues.
    (b.) Order and interpret diagnostic and therapeutic tests.
    (c.) Prescribe appropriate pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatments.
    (d.) Advise about and provide preventive health services.
    (e.) Provide appropriate patient education.
  3. Participate in designated student health service committees, as assigned.
Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
  1. Minimum of a master’s degree in nursing with family nurse practitioner specialty and current national certification as Family Nurse Practitioner OR graduation from an accredited physician assistant program and current certification from the National Certification Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
  2. Montana license to practice as a Family Nurse Practitioner with Prescriptive Authority OR Montana license to practice as a Physician Assistant.
  3. Current DEA registration.
  4. Demonstrated knowledge and treatment skills required of a mid-level provider including knowledge of current health trends and current medications.
  5. Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  6. Demonstrated ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment when working in a stressful, fast-paced environment.
  7. Current BLS Certification.
Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
  1. Experience in a primary care setting.
  2. College health experience as a physician assistant or nurse practitioner.
The Successful Candidate Will

The ability to develop a working knowledge of the Health Service’s organization and services, the basic rules governing visitors and patient treatments, and standard procedures, medical records, and medical terminology; the ability to consistently exercise initiative and good judgment; the ability to effectively operate work-related equipment; the ability to communicate effectively with employees and the public both in person and over the phone; the ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with co-workers and the public in a team-oriented environment; the ability to efficiently use an electronic health records system; the ability to represent the Student Health Service and its programs to others in a professional and courteous manner.

  1. License to practice as Nurse Practitioner with Prescriptive Authority in the State of Montana OR License to practice as a Physician Assistant in the State of Montana.
  2. Current DEA registration.
  3. Current BLS certification.
