Position Details

General Statement

The Residence Life Custodial Team provides cleaning and maintenance services in and around the residence halls and associated areas. The primary emphasis is on cleaning the public areas which include restrooms, carpeted and hard-surface floor care, trash removal, room set-ups and other related duties.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Custodian II is a working custodian who provides lead worker direction to Custodian I’s.

  • Assesses and organizes workload for a team of custodians
  • Conducts area inspections and reviews
  • Assists with training staff as needed
  • Maintains work equipment and supply inventory
  • Performs a variety of administrative tasks: producing inventory reports and orders, reviewing work orders, assisting the Custodial Supervisor II with timesheets, tracking furniture, etc.
  • Verbally addresses performance problems while reporting up any issues to the Custodial Supervisor II for possible disciplinary actions
  • Performs custodial duties needed in any of the areas managed by the department
  • And actively participates as a member of the team while performing other duties in support of the department’s mission.

Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

At least two years experience with commercial and/or industrial custodial workor an equivalent combination of relevant education and related experience.

Experience providing excellent customer service to a variety of individuals.

Experience leading, directing and/or training staff.

Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

Certifications/classes related to custodial, sanitation, building maintenance, etc.

Experience using computers and various software packages with an emphasis on Microsoft Office programs.

  • Represent the department in a professional and courteous manner
Position Special Requirements/Additional Information

Will work other shifts or areas to meet departmental needs depending on the school and event cycles.

Occasionally works outside and in inclement weather.

Must possess a valid driver’s license and meet all State of Montana requirements to operate State/University vehicles. Please do not send a copy of your driver’s license at this time. (If the successful candidate possesses a valid out of state driver’s license, candidate must obtain a valid Montana driver’s license within 60 days.)

Physical Demands

Lift, carry and move items up to 50 lbs up and down stairs. (Such as stacking chairs, folding tables, carrying floor sealer, etc.)

Lift, carry and move heavy pieces of furniture in and out of resident’s rooms and other department areas.

Move up and down stairs and step ladders.

Move about for extended periods of time.

Grip handles on cleaning equipment.

Shovel snow.

Regular exposure to cleaning solutions.
