Position Details

General Statement

A full-time position has become available managing the Animal Biosciences Building (ABB) laboratory complex associated with the Animal & Range Sciences Department. Research activities within the ABB include: Microbiology, Genetics, Physiology, and Nutrition. The successful applicant will be an active participant in the department’s research, teaching, and extension team.

Duties and Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include managing the laboratories and associated facilities, ensuring safety and compliance of laboratory employees and students, conducting and/or overseeing analytical procedures, and contributing to ongoing research and data analyses. Additional responsibilities include maintaining inventories of chemicals and supplies, ensuring research equipment is maintained, managing laboratory budgets, developing and teaching laboratory procedures and analytical operations to technical staff, undergraduate and graduate students.

Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
  1. Bachelor of Science in a biological/chemical sciences or closely related field.
  2. Demonstrated experience in laboratory program development and oversight.
  3. Demonstrated experience in laboratory analytical techniques including collecting, organizing, and recording data.
  4. Demonstrated experience in conducting research.
  5. Demonstrated experience managing budgets, both expenditures and income.
Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
  1. Master of Science in a biological/chemical sciences or closely related field.
  2. Demonstrated experience in managing research projects including maintaining equipment, purchasing supplies, following appropriate safety procedures, and managing budgets.
  3. Demonstrated experience in computer processing of data, including proficiency in using standard statistical, spreadsheet, and database software.
  4. Demonstrated ability to develop and communicate laboratory procedures.
  5. Demonstrated experience in the use and maintenance of established and new laboratory equipment.
  6. Demonstrated molecular biology experience.
  7. Demonstrated experience in basic information technology, i.e., installation, maintenance, and implementation of computer systems and applications.
  8. Demonstrated experience in personnel management and training.
